Budweiser- Golden Wheat: Budweiser Tries to Hop Aboard the Microbrew Bandwagon (again).

http://www.anheuser-busch.com/Press/2009/Oct/Bud-Light-Golden-Wheat-6-Pack-Med.jpg

Anyone who follows the business side of beer knows that Budweiser has been getting hammered in the profitability department by the surging popularity of microbrews. So in a (half-hearted) effort to combat this, Budweiser has been rolling out its line of microbrew “style” beers, much like last years “American Ale.” Everyone knows that “style” really means a lame attempt at copying the real thing, kind of like how Creed makes rock and roll “style” music.

So after producing an undrinkable “Ale Style Beer,” they have decided to roll out an undrinkable “Wheat Style Beer.” Hence, Bud Light Golden Wheat was born. This swill tastes like Bud Light mixed with Bell’s Oberon, And I mean this in the worst way possible (no disrespect to Oberon). This is not Oberon light. This shit tastes like pouring half a glass of Oberon and then filling it full of ice. Now let the ice melt, pour in a splash of orange juice, (from concentrate naturally) and serve to your worst enemy. Some breweries write clever little sayings under their caps. Budweiser should write apologies.

I am an avid wheat beer drinker, so I hoped that just maybe Budweiser was going to roll out something I would not be embarrassed to drink. No such luck. The fact that Budweiser remains America’s biggest brewery is an embarrassment. Stick to a real wheat beer, like any hefeweizen. The only excuse you have to buy this is if you get a new shotgun for Christmas and you want to test it out.

ABV: 4.1%
