Arcadia Brewing Company - Sky High Rye: An Afternoon Delight.

I was walking through and talking to Jason about a local liquor store by my house, Discount Liquors, which has a pretty nice selection of craft beer in their aisles.  I began taking pictures of the beers that I thought would be of interest and I sent the images to Jason.  He told me that he was interested in trying Sky High Rye by Arcadia Brewing Company and told me to pick up a six-pack.  I did and I gave it to him just after he returned from his trip to North Carolina.  He told me that I could take one to review and I am glad that he did because Arcadia made a fan out of me with this beer.

Sky High Rye pours with a golden peach hue and a cream-colored head which rose about an inch up the side of my glass.  The aroma is citrusy and spicy and the carbonation is moderate.  This is not an extreme crusher on the palate, but it drinks easily and will have you grabbing for another.  The flavor has a nice spicy rye character and as the glass warms the hop character comes through nicely.

A lot of times I get caught up in the “Wow Factor” and forget about the art of a well-balanced beer. Beers with delicate subtleties that urge on your attention can be just as rewarding as a beer that smashes you over the head with intensity if it is well-crafted.  This is the kind of beer that I would enjoy at an afternoon barbeque or family get-together or any occasion where I was going to have more than a few beers in a day and still wanted to enjoy the flavor of what I am drinking.

ABV: 6.0%

Consumed: Mother Earth Globe Glass

Verdict: Buy a Six Pack
