Wes It has been really cool to see Michigan beers make their way into Chicago; Bell’s is no exception. However when I make my way back to Michigan I am always surprised at all the Bell’s brew that I can't get my paws on in Illinois. Naturally I was curious when I saw Bell’s Hell Hath No Fury Ale; we will call it HHNFA for short. The pink label and the cartoon art of a woman bitching out the devil reminded me of a Farside comic.
You will notice immediately that HHNFA pours will evil intentions. It is black as night with a smooth khaki –creamed foam. You will be blown back by the waves of strong roasted hops and caramel sweetness. It smells like a Guinness on steroids. I did enjoy the fact that you can actually smell the alcohol on this ladies breath.
HHNFA is an intensely interesting experience, from start to finish. If you have ever had Bell’s Winter White, then you have had this beer. It has a the same strange aftertaste of Winter White that I have only ever been able to describe as “toothpaste.” This is mixed with a overblown roast coffee flavor that mixes with hints of alcohol. It finishes sweet and dry like a red wine. Oh yeah, I freaking hate wine.
This is hands down my least favorite beer from my boys at Bell’s. I consider $14.99 a six pack to be a pretty expensive brew. It is simply way too much to spend on a beer you don’t like, which is unfortunate. I just did not enjoy HHNFA. But its cool, they can't all be winners.
ABV: 7.5%
Consumed: Pint Glass
Verdict: Bum one from a friend.
