Jason With back to back tasty reviews of two of the other Boulder Beer Company’s beverages, Mojo IPA and Hazed & Infused, I just couldn’t help grabbing for a Mojo Risin’ Double IPA. This will make my 12th IPA review and I don’t see “The End” in sight.
Boulder Beer Company Classifies this brew as a Double IPA and their website describes Mojo Risin as “Mojo Risin’ Double IPA is a souped-up, extreme version of Mojo IPA, brewed with more than a half-ton of extra malt and twice the amount of hops – Then Double-Dry-Hopped with Amarillo Hops for added intensity. Limited release available in January.” The label states “In a moment of creative chaos, our brewers a Boulder Beer Company decided to take our hopalicious MoJo India Pale Ale to the next level.” It goes on to add that the “The double dry-hop addition elevates the grapefruit-like aroma and flavor to an outrageous intensity, while the added malt raises the alcohol level to 10% by volume. And if you say you never loved it, we’ll know you are a liar!” “This limited edition brew of MoJo Risin’ Double IPA is the 6th Release in our Looking Glass Series of specialty beers.”
This brew pours a hazy caramel color with a light tan color ½” head with a mixture of both hop & malt aromas and is a trippy 10% ABV.
“Hello I Love You” Mojo Risin’. As some of you may or may not know, originally “Mojo Risin” was an anagram for Jim Morrison who was the lyrical mastermind of The Doors. Now I’m no “L.A. Woman,” but this beer has me feeling like a bit of a “Wild Child.” There is such a fine balance of hoppy bitterness/malty sweetness that has my taste buds almost feeling a bit confused…in a good way. There is such an ever so slight hit of grapefruit in the aromas as well as in the aftertaste. This is unlike any other beer I have ever had. This is a good thing. So I say “Tell All The People” that this is one fine brew that deserves to carry the name “Mojo Risin.” Not your typical brew…but I wouldn’t expect anything less.
ABV: 10%
