Three long days of work, three intense trips to the gym, and one ridiculous argument with the girlfriend later, this week is finally looking to wind down, and so am I. Usually on Thursday nights I watch The Office and escape from the reality of the week. This being the week of the Olympics, there is no new Office in site. Plus after watching my boy Shaun White lay down a gold colored ass beating, the rest of the games are going to seem a little anticlimactic. I guess I better find some liquid relaxation.
I reached into the review box, which Jason had supplied, and dug deep for something that I was going to enjoy. With about twenty different beers staring at you, this can be a disconcerting transaction. But for some reason Boulder Beer Company’s Never Summer Ale called out to me. Maybe it was because I felt like summer wasn’t ever going to actually come to Chicago. This dark amber ale poured with a whip cream like head. Never Summer’s aroma boasts a sweet hoppyness mixed with a faint spice, maybe cinnamon. The spice scent is very faint though, so don’t think this is some disgusting winter spice beer.
Never Summer has a very robust taste. It definitely sticks very closely to the amber ale formula. It reminded me of Fat Tire, but with a more pronounced alcohol after bite. It is a heavy beer that would go great with a snowboard video or a round of Tiger Woods 10 on the old Xbox. Overall it is a very enjoyable beer. Never Summer is not going to blow your mind, or become your new must try beer, however, it is definitely above average. This is a beer that will keep your belly warm long after the fire has burnt out for the night. Let’s put it this way, I would buy it again, and there is a lot a brews that I can’t say that about!
ABV: 5.9%
Consumed: Pint Glass
Verdict: Buy a twelve pack
