Jason One of the fastest growing trends in the Craft Beer industry is collaboration brews. Usually they are limited in release and depending on where the brewery is located you may never have the opportunity to enjoy in the fruits of this Craft Brew Craze. While dinning at my favorite establishment I notice that upon the top of their beer menu that Finnegan’s featured two collaboration brews that I have heard a lot about and have been dying to try but figuring that my chances would be slim in doing so…until now. I am really excited to be sampling BrewDog/Stone Brewing Company’s collaborative effort known as Bashah.
This collaborative effort is classified as a Black Double Belgian IPA and their website describes the Bashah experience as, “We brewed a special Stone-BrewDog collaborative beer, a double black Belgian IPA called bashah. We are going to release some more details about the beer itself later, there are a few pretty exciting twists to it.
We all had a blast brewing and hanging out with the Stone crew, for us their visit is the most exciting thing that has ever happened at BrewDog - it was a real privilege to be able to brew with our heroes!”
From the tap, Bashah pours a pitch black color with a minimal taupe head and smells of roasted and chocolate malts with faint vanilla, hop & fruit touches and is 8.6% ABV.
Being classified as a double black IPA, I would have figured that this brew may have had more characteristics of an IPA but I would be greatly mistaken. Rather, Bashah has the color and flavor of your more roasted malt brews but still has the bite of your typical IPA. This is a brew that you can taste and feel the alcohol content as it slightly warms as it goes down. Bashah starts rather smoothly transitioning to an alcohol tingle in the middle then finishes with a chocolate/malty finish that leaves your mouth parched and requiring another sip. This is truly a treat for me. This great collaboration brew from two great and innovative breweries is a must try for any Craft Beer lover…just pray you can find some.
ABV: 8.6%
Consumed: 8 oz Snifter
Verdict: Buy A Case
