Founders Brewing Company- Cerise Cherry Fermented Ale: Not exactly a wild cherry jackpot!

Wes Michigan is actually the cherry capital of the world, so it is no surprise that there are a lot of cherry beers from Michigan. I brought this one back form a road trip and hadn’t gotten around to reviewing it. I was little intrigued that Founders decided to go the ale route, since most cherry beers tend to be porters or stouts. So tonight after a great dinner by my beautiful girlfriend I decided to try something new and cracked a Cerise.
Cerise pours a honey/amber with an undetectable amount of carbonation. Much like a keg party at Vassar, there is no head to be found here either. The aroma is sweet and sour with hints of sour mash and sweet cherries and honey. It is a pretty beer, but who the hell is looking for a pretty beer?
Cerise would make a good dessert beer or a nice conversation piece at a brew sharing party. However, I cannot imagine that the average beer drinker has bought it more than once. The flavor is very tart and biting. Founder’s is not shy about the fact that this is a cherry beer, but I just couldn’t get into. The flavor is actually quite delicious; but, it is not a flavor I really look for in a beer. You might be able to pair Cerise with certain cheese and cracker combos, but if you pair it with your friends football game; prepare to get your ass kicked.
