Founders Brewing Company- Double Trouble: Single handedly trying to revive Michigan’s economy

Sometimes the straight forward approach is the best approach: like asking a girl on a date, or telling your boss to fuck off.  Founders delivers a straight forward ass kicking brew with Double Trouble. This potion is all beer and no pretense.

Double Trouble is not trying to reinvent the pale ale wheel. Instead they are refining it, improving it, and jamming it into your face. This beer thunders in at 9.4% ABV and rocks a tongue twisting 86 IBUs. It pours a dark yellow with a whip cream reminiscent head. The scent is pure hops: strong, bold and unforgiving. This is coupled with just enough bite to remain intriguing but never overwhelming. It reachs a level of flavor balance that borders on astonishing. Definitely a must try.

Founders Double Trouble proves that Michigan remains an absolute powerhouse in the craft brewing world. If you ever catch yourself in Grand Rapids, you better stop by Founders. Tell them your looking for a Dirty Bastard. They will know exactly what you’re talking about.

Founders Brewing Company- Double Trouble: I Like Getting In Trouble

Yep, the IPA reviews continue as I cannot seem to stop buying more of them to taste and review.  I figure I’m on a roll so I might as well stick with it.  Wes had asked me a while back if I had anything from Founders Brewing Company and I said, “who?”  This was a brewery that I had not heard of at the time (which there is plenty more I haven’t) and upon my next stop at the beverage depot I was told about their seasonal Double Trouble IPA, so I grabbed a four pack and here it is.

Founders Brewing Company classifies this brew as an Imperial IPA and their website describes Double Trouble as, “An imperial IPA that was brewed to turn your world upside down. Hops have got you coming and going. Pungent aromatics up front paired with a malt balanced backbone and a smooth bitter finish."

This is a seasonal,  so get out and get it while you can. Double Trouble poured a cloudy golden color with a less then a ¼” off white color head. It had some pugent aromas of hop & citrus paired with a whopping  9.4% ABV and a face puckering 86 IBU’s.

Well thank God that I found Founders.  As a founder (of a website), Founders had me feeling like I need to go out and find more Founders to try.  This is an amazingly bitter brew that has a super clean and crisp finish.  You can ever so slightly taste the malts and citrus flavors in the finish. Please remember that at 9.4% ABV, more than a couple of these bad boys will have you getting in double the trouble as a normal brew…which just might be what you need.
