Founders Brewing Company- Kentucky Breakfast Stout: Grab your saddle!

So I have been playing this kick ass game called Red Dead Redemption. It is an old time Wild West style action/adventure game and it is great. So tonight I was looking for a beer that was going help put me in the mood to blast some banditos. Luckily I had a bottle of Founder’s KBS sitting in my fridge thanks to my buddy Ryan. This was a perfect fit for the Wild West experience right down to the awesome old timey bottle that claims not to cure rheumatism, toothache or “lame back,” ha ha, I love the label. Let’s hope the insides are as cool and original.

KBS pours like a glass of mud, it looks like used motor oil, black and thick. It boasts dark foam darker than most beers bottles. It is aged in bourbon oak barrels and the bourbon smell punches through first, but is quickly followed by pungent hints of roasted coffee and toasted malt. If you closed your eyes and sniffed it you would swear you were smelling an Irish Coffee, or as my family calls it, coffee. There is also a sweet scent that smells like maple syrup or maybe molasses. KBS is definitely making me feel like I am in the old west.

This beer has an intense of a flavor profile as you are ever going to find. It is eerily smooth in texture while maintaining an complex flavor. All the components of a classic stout are here. It has a roasted coffee backbone and a slightly chocolaty finish. Oh, and don’t forget about the bourbon, the sweet, sweet, bourbon. This Founder's beer is a whiskey lover’s delight. Don’t get my wrong, this is not an all night long pounding beer, it is more of a winter sipper. It will take you back to the Wild West for sure. Drink a whole six pack and you might wake up in a desert in the West. The choice is yours. Just remember don’t drink and ride (a horse).
