Steve If you’ve grown up watching scary movies in the dark the way that I did you would recognize the power of monsters emerging from dark waters. Like the legend of South Bay Bessie this 72 IBU monster creeps up from the shallow depths of Lake Erie pulling you under and enticing you to submit control to an onslaught of Simcoe & Fuggle hops.
Lake Erie Monster is an Imperial India Pale Ale/ Double IPA from Great Lakes Brewing Company in Cleveland, Ohio. Lake Erie Monster pours a beautiful golden color with reddish highlights. The head builds up to an inch of tight bubbles that leaves lacing around the glass. The aroma is earthy and malty with hints of mango and orange. The malt and hops flavors complement each other harmoniously. Carbonation is fairly low but at levels that accentuate the malt sweetness and woody hop flavors that dominate this tasty beverage.
Great Lakes Brewing Company has hit one out of the park with Lake Erie Monster. It is a seasonal beer that is available from May to July, but if you can find a four-pack still on the shelves, do yourself a favor an pick it up.
