Half Acre Beer Company- Bairn Farmhouse Belgian Style Ale: I’m in love!

I think buying new beers has become an uncontrollable obsession. Ok, let me rewind just a little. I went for a little bike ride today to checkout the neighborhood that my new apartment is in. It just so happens that my new place is only a few blocks from Half Acre Beer Company on Lincoln Ave in Chicago, convenient choice I know. Even though I had no reason to go inside, I did. And despite having a fridge full of beers, I still walked out with some Daisy Cutters and a bomber of Bairn Farmhouse. I have a problem.

Bairn Farmhouse Belgian Style Ale is made with lemon and chamomile. It pours a hypnotizing golden hue smells extremely sweet and yeasty. The snow white foam dissipated quickly and left a faint citrus scent in the air. This beer is pretty and she knows it, right down to the bottle decorated with a giant white flower. I thought maybe the flower was chamomile but I googled a picture of it and the flower on the label is definitely not chamomile, so save your smart ass comments.

This brew is impressive. I don’t normally like Belgians very much but Bairn House breaks the mold in a few ways. The lemon and chamomile really cut the sweetness down and make this brew smooth and delicious. It walks a tightrope between sweet and sour in a bold and unapologetic way that must be applauded. You can still taste the backbone of a Belgian brew, but the citrus punch and floral bitterness make this brew one of a kind.

I would love to give this brew a glowing thumbs up, but there is a few problems, namely the price. At almost $10 per 22oz. bomber it would cost you near $20 to catch a buzz; which is a shame because if Half Acre could get this into six packs or even four packs at a reasonable price, this would instantly become my new go-to-brew. Yeah it really is that good. Bairn Farmhouse is a truly original and delicious brew that every beer drinker MUST try at least once.
