Half Acre Beer Company- Ginger Twin India Style Red Ale: As Rare As Real Ginger Twins

Jason Pretty stoked to be trying another craft brew from a local Chicago brewery, Half Acre Beer Company. This review is somewhat appropriate as my cousin Ian and his beautiful family was out for our Father’s Day/Graduation/Rib Cook Off party and he has the two most adorable red headed children you’re ever seen. I’m talking fire engine red. When I went to the fridge and was trying to decide which route to take, this Nolan & Helena inspired decision just seemed right. Ginger Twin India Style Red Ale is on.
Half Acre Beer Company classifies this brew as an India Red Ale and their website describes Ginger Twin as, "A nod to the hop cone, we amped up this beer with our favorites while backing it up with some malty heft. *Specialty Brew. Get it when you see it."
Ginger Twin Pours a hazy reddish/caramel brown color with a 1 ¼” tan head and has a really bready (graham cracker like) aroma that has some spicy hop hints as well. Ginger Twin is 7.0% ABV.
I can’t say that I have ever had an “India Style Red Ale” and I am assuming that it is supposed to share some qualities with an IPA. A red ale all hopped up. I have never tasted anything like Ginger Twin. This is a very unique beer that hit me with something I wasn’t prepared for. It has a hop bite in the beginning and a very red ale taste but super bready and finishes very dry. What I really like about it is that it is different and is not overly carbonated like a lot of red ales that I have had in the past. My only beef is that is seems to sit very heavy in my stomach, I feel full after ¾’s of a glass. What I have noticed is that as my glass emptied and the beer had time to warm up the hop aromas came through stronger than in the beginning. Overall I have to tip my hat to Half Acre on this fine craft brew, it is a unique offering with a flavor all its own. Now if only I could find some Ginger Twins of the female variety…
