Half Acre Beer Company- Over Ale: Very Promising

Jason With all of the different beers from all of the different breweries, I have found that it is a close competition between Colorado and Michigan for Craft Beer superiority. Both states consistently produce, in my opinion, some of the finest beers I have ever tried. With Craft Beer being the fastest growing segment of the alcohol industry, breweries and brew pubs have been popping up left and right. Within the last few years we have had a few micro breweries pop up in the Chicagoland area and I am happy to say that Chicago’s own Half Acre Beer Company’s Over Ale is the beer de jour.
Half Acre Beer Company classifies this beer as an American Style Bitter and their website describes Over Ale as, “Half Acre Over Ale is what we call an American Style Bitter. This deep brown beer is brewed with six varieties of malted barley and balanced with three generous hop additions. You’ll find a mild malt body with bitter bones. Enjoy this beer.”
Over Ale pours a dark amber color with a 1” tan head, bready & sweet caramel malt aromas and registers a 6.0% ABV.
Wes not only recommended Over Ale but was nice enough to bring me one on his last trip to the TGBOAT World HQ’s. This is my second Chicago based brewery review and I have to say that they’re holding their own nicely. Over Ale is an overall good beer. It has a caramel malty taste in the beginning with a very crisp hop finish. Over Ale has a nice level of carbonation that gives this brew a well rounded flavor and is very drinkable. If I may rephrase the great Red Auerbach, “A Half Acre of performance is worth a whole world of promise.” Over Ale is a promising sign that Half Acre Beer Company will be around for a while.
