Half Acre Beer Company- Sticky Fat: What a weekend!

Wes Half Acre’s Sticky Fat has always been a bit of an urban legend to me. I have had a multitude of people mention it as their favorite Half Acre beer over the years but I had never been able to get my hands on it. This all changed this weekend when my friends Ryan and Amy came into town this weekend. Ryan LOVES Daisy Cutter so I took him over to the brewery to get a pour and to my disbelief I had somehow missed the fact that Sticky Fat was out and on tap. Did I mention how awesome my weekend ended up being, because it was awesome!
Sticky Fat pours dark and thick like molasses. The carbonation is light with a thick and muddy head. This wet hopped ale is one shade lighter than black with some dark mahogany rings edging the outer rim of the glass. I was pleased with the earthy aroma that boasts hints of pine, toffee, roasted malt and sweet coffee and cream. Sticky Fat quickly lives up to its emblem consisting of a massive bear covered in gobs of gooey green hops.
Half Acre has crafted a beer with something for everyone. The base beer here contains an incredible brown ale with hints of nutty goodness and roasted coffee malts. The wet hopping kicks in to deliver an oily and sticky hop punch that makes this beer the new king off wet hopped fall brews. For some unfortunate reason Sticky Fat did not get bottled this year as it is growler fills only! If there is anyway you can make a trip to Half Acre this beer is worth the pilgrimage, it really is that damn good!
