Half Acre Brewing Company- Thunder and Son Brown Ale: Wagons HO!

Every Friday I eagerly make a trip to Half Acre over on Lincoln Ave. More often than not they have something special on tap that came out that weekend. So with my growler trembling in my cold, work-weary, hand I opened the door to nirvana a couple weeks back. I noticed a few employees dressed up in cowboy hats, so I knew something new was on tap, and it was a BEAST known as Thunder and Son. Thunder and Son is a king sized brown ale, that packs as much punch as a 4 caliber gun.

Thunder and Son pours chestnut brown like a glass of mud with an attitude. The foam is minimal and khaki in hue while carbonation is even more slight. The aroma is strong and sweet with hints of malt, molasses and strong notes of alcohol. The flavor is earthy and sweet, like a brown ale should be, but the real sell her is the flavor of the alcohol. Each sip leaves you with a warm glow like you just had a shot of whiskey! Superb and amazing: this brown ale puts other browns to shame.

Thunder and Son is no joke and is NOT for Microbrew newbies. It rocks a 12% ABV that will turn the nose of the neophyte beer drinker. However, if you’re looking for a legit and satisfying beer challenge, round up some Thunder and Son. It might not show you how the West was won, but it will certainly make you want to play liars dice, steal a horse and shoot some holes in the saloon roof. This beer is without a doubt a must try! Get it while you still have a chance, or forever be a lowly farm hand.

ABV: 12%

Consumed: Pint glass (From a growler)

Verdict: Buy a Keg!
