Indigo Imp Brewery Ltd- Gatekeeper: Forget Lebron Cleveland!

Jason Back in November we went to Ohio and I came back with a few cases of stuff that I just can’t get here in Illinois. I’ve gone through quite a few of the beers I brought back but there are still a few left that I need to get around to. Hell, I have beers from my North Carolina trip in August that I haven’t hit yet, I am so behind. This evening went a little different than usual; I went to the basement to grab me a beer. Once I realized that I had a couple of bottles of Indigo Imp Brewery’s Gatekeeper I knew exactly what I wanted to review. Prior to arriving in Columbus, I had never heard of Indigo Imp Brewery but to me that made it that much more attractive to purchase. Gatekeeper is a porter and right now porters are just what I need when it’s so damn cold out and I’m craving something a little more roasty. I am more than ready to consume this brew from the Cleveland area, Gatekeeper is poured and ready.
Indigo Imp Brewery classifies this brew as a Robust Porter and their website briefly describes Gatekeeper as, “A classic Robust Porter brewed with Black and Caramel Malts in our open fermentation tanks. Gatekeeper is a dark beer with a balance of sharp bitterness, from Black malt and hops, and malt sweetness from Caramel Malt.”
Gatekeeper pours a dark brown with a 1 ¾” light brown head. The aroma is a hypnotic blend of roasted malts, caramel malts, chocolate and coco.
What the fuck, this is yummy! Wow, I’ve never been jealous of those that live in Cleveland but now I am. Hell, you guys should stop whining about Lebron, you have Indigo Imp Brewery!! From the minute I poured Gatekeeper I was mesmerized by the aroma. The wafts of roasted malts, caramel and chocolate made me want to dive right in and that’s just the beginning. Upon my first sip my hunch was affirmed. Gatekeeper is one bad ass porter! It starts with a dry roasted flavor that gives you a glimpse of sweetness and finishes with a bitter chocolate taste that is dry and oh so refreshing. The carbonation is minimal but in my opinion, dead on. Gatekeeper is a bottle conditioned brew and according to the label on the bottle, Indigo Imp brews are unfiltered, unpasteurized and naturally carbonated. This is one of those very rare times that I actually have another bottle and I can tell you that I’m hoarding it all to myself!! For those of you in Cleveland, you have no clue how lucky you are!!
