Jason Ok, I promise that I will move along to another style soon as I am starting to need a long vacation from my IPA vacation. This stop along my IPA journey has me trying an offering from the Lagunitas (LAH-GOO-KNEE-TUSS) Brewing Company. Their IPA is made from a mind boggling 43 different hops & 65 various hops…can you say over doing it??
Lagunitas Brewing Company classifies this brew as an India Pale Ale and their website describes their IPA as “This is our unique version of an ancient style. A style as old as the ocean trade routes of the last centuries Great Ships. Not as old as the equator they had to cross twice enroute, nor as old as the 10,000 or so miles of Di-Hydrogen Oxide and Sodium upon which they sailed, but older than the Circulithium-4 Lentloid that binds the Lupulin Quartnate onto your taste buds. Weird. Think about it. Now stop. OK, go again, now stop. Think again, and stop. But we digress. Made with 43 different hops and 65 various malts, this redolent ale will likely float your boat, whatever planet you're on." They also include a little video clip on the IPA page that is worth the watching.
This beer pours a copper color with golden edges and a 1 ¼” off white head with a combination of hoppy & malty aromas and registers 5.7% ABV.
This is a well balanced IPA with a good mix of both hops & malts. Now when it comes to IPAs I prefer something with a little more bite. Lagunitas Brewing Company’s IPA is a tad too malty for me and has a slightly mild aftertaste as opposed to that bitter bite that I have come to love about most IPAs. Nothing really stands out about this beer, don’t get me wrong it’s good…just not great. It’s like Pantera’s Reinventing The Steel, it was a good CD but it was no Vulgar Display Of Power, which is probably one of the top ten metal albums of all time.
ABV: 5.7%
Consumed: Imperial Pint
Verdict: Buy A Twelve Pack
