Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company- Southern Pecan: Yup this beer exists…

Wes This brew comes from my friend and fellow beer whore Dave P. Dave and I met through our mutual friend Doug and we quickly bonded over our love of craft beer and given each other shit. This bottle of Southern Pecan was a hookup bottle for beers I gave Dave a few months back. As a lover of brown ales I was pretty jazzed to crack this Mississippi born baby open and indulge in a little southern hospitality.
Southern Pecan pours the color of root beer with a thick and creamy khaki head. It was a little waterier and a little more carbonated then I was envisioning. The aroma was actually slightly sour with hints of earthy creaminess. The aroma is very leathery and the roasted pecans definitely give it a unique characteristic that I can’t but my finger on. Intriguing…
I think I built up Southern Pecan way too much in my head before I actually tasted it. I was hoping for a malty, sweet brown ale with a nutty pecan foundation. Instead I found a beer that was slightly watery and kind of bland that finished way too dryly. The pecans seem to mute the flavor more than accentuate it. I am not sure why I let this bottle get me so hyped. I think the fact that I have been on a freaking rocket ride of great beers lately may have given me an unwarranted sense of omnipotence. Well… hats off to Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company for bringing me back down to earth and reminding me that every good ride comes to an end. This beer is liquid “whatever.”
ABV: 4.4%
Consumed: Globe Glass
Verdict: Bum one from a friend
