Lost Coast Brewery- Downtown Brown: I Once Was Lost But Now I’m Found

Jason Needing to get some errands done, I grabbed my oldest daughter and went out to accomplish as much as we could. Had some shopping to take care of, pick up some dry cleaning, purchase some groceries and L & I decided to grab some early dinner at Portillo’s half way through our journey. I for some reason was having a hard time remembering everything I needed to pick up as my brain just wasn’t functioning properly. Each stop it seemed as if I would forget 1 thing and I happened to turn to my daughter and she proclaimed that I had “CRS”. Now you know you’re getting old when your 12 year old starts using acronyms to describe your condition, so she got me to bite and ask, “What is CRS?” She replied, “Can’t Remember Shit.” Damn I love that child…I have taught her well. So after this day of forgetting and feeling lost, I suppose that it is fitting that my next review is from Lost Coast Brewery and my choice is their Downtown Brown.
Lost Coast Brewery classifies this beer as a Brown Ale and their website briefly describes Downtown Brown as, “A smooth, full-bodied nut brown ale, lightly hopped with a hint of roasted and crystal malts. This ale is dark in color without the heavy taste of porter of stout.”
Downtown Brown pours a clear amberish brown with a ½” tan head and a caramel malt aroma with touches of hops (a toasty aroma rose towards the end of the glass) and is a sessionable 5.0% ABV.
Well, I’m feeling much better and certainly nowhere near as lost as I felt earlier. Nothing like a good brew to bring back your senses. Downtown Brown is a good brown ale and has a very light feel and is very easy-drinking. Despite the sweet malty aroma this beer is hoppier than would have been expected and there is only a slight trace of any malt sweetness. Downtown Brown also has a higher carbonation level than most other brown ales that I have tried. Downtown Brown is a pretty respectable brown ale, if you are a fan of the browns and are looking for an everyday drinker that won’t knock you on your ass, then this brew is right for you.
ABV: 5.0%
Consumed: Nonic Pint Glass
Verdict: Buy A Twelve Pack
