Wes Normally I try not to drink more than one review beer a day. But after running four miles and drinking a horrible first review beer, I had to get this taste out of my mouth. I decided to try my hand at Magic Hat’s Wacko Summer Seasonal. I remember trying this beer last summer; I just don’t remember trying it, if you know what I mean… I have had good luck with Magic Hat, so what the hell…
Wacko pours the color of a wine spritzer or a glass of strawberry soda. Its scent is one of a kind, a very light and crisp aroma with a sweet earth feel that screams, SUMMER! It has a nice carbonation with a thin pure white head. The beet juice must give this beer its unique color. Don’t be afraid of the girly hue, however, because Wacko’s flavor can hold its own.
Magic Hat has a very interesting brew going on here; it has hints of malt and just the smallest trace of hops. I would say the flavor is sweet and crisp, with a touch of dryness. Overall Wacko is a very light and enjoyable summer beer. This would be a perfect beer to bring to a camp fire or to hand to your friend’s annoying other half when you “accidentally” forgot to bring her wine back from the store. It is light and refreshing and just might be my new perfect brew for our summer softball league. Also Magic Hat gets my vote for “most kick-ass website in craft beer,” check it out; it is like a little art show in your living room.
