Maui Brewing Company- Mana Wheat: When the blizzard starts; run for Hawaii!!!

Wes AHHH, today I heard the greatest words a teacher can hear, SNOW DAY! So I caught up on some movies, read a little and decided to write a beer review (or six). As I surveyed my stash I was looking for something to take my mind away from the two feet of fresh snow outside. Well, Hawaii would work as well as anything so I grabbed a can of Maui Brewing Company’s Mana Wheat. Let us hope this is sunshine in a can.
Firstly, I think wheat beers are an awesome summertime drink, however, two problems are quickly evident. Looking outside, it is far from summer and this one has freaking pineapple juice. (Insert Gross Facial Expression) Mana Wheat pours the pale straw color of a typical wheat beer. It is slightly more carbonated than an average beer. The aroma is extraordinarily light, with a faint and subtle scent of citrus. The head was thin and willowy with only a tiny ring edging the glass.
Mana Wheat is very surprising in the flavor department. I expected it to be delicate and prissy but it actually hits like a Samoan sledgehammer. The biting wheat is precariously balanced with a very appetizing sweet and subtle pineapple kick. I must say I was pleased with what I discovered in this can. The Maui Brewing Co. website claims that this beer is lightly hopped to accentuate the pineapple flavor and I must say, bravo. This beer is a masterful lesson in the art of balancing flavor profiles. Bring on the snow and Aloha!
