Mendocino has been a very vocal supporter of TGBOAT. They even sent us some review samples. But a man of such insoluble moral fiber as myself must remain impartial. Why must I remain impartial? Because if I’m going to sell out, there is going to be a corporate jet involved.
Eye of the Hawk is a very unique and hard to describe concoction. The website describes it as a coppery amber color. I think it is a little bit lighter, maybe a hazy pale orange at best. The aroma is slight hops and overwhelming sweetness. There is a certain ever-present fruity scent that lingers in the glass as well.
In the taste department there is also a lot of interesting occurrences. The initial mouth feel is a very strong ale presence. Almost reminiscent of Killian’s Irish Red. This is quickly replaced by a fruity sweetness. The flavor is vaguely fruity, but not sweet, more of a fermented fruit bitterness. Eye of the Hawk is a complex puzzle. It reminded me of doing a complicated jigsaw; fun, but your doing a lot of searching in the process. With that being said, this beer is definitely one of a kind. That alone makes it worth your time.
Side note: Guys you have to update and redesign that website, ASAP!
