Mikkeller- Beer Geek Breakfast: Perfect For A Balanced Breakfast Or Any Meal

Saturday October 9th – What a great day.  Got up early, got some laundry done, went Mtn. Bike riding with my bro Ron and rode some wicked single track trails that proved my fat ass is way out of shape.  I arrived home to find that my oldest daughter made cupcake, which negated any calories burned during my ride but oh well, that’s life.  I was hoping that by getting rid of those calories it would permit me to consume some additional beers this evening as I have easily put on 10 plus pound since starting this website and I really need to drop a few.  Looks like that ain’t happening any time soon.  The other night when Master Steve stopped by, he graced me with a few gift brews that I am stoked to try.  In keeping with my commitment to Pam to provide more variety in the styles we review I decided that I am going with one of the brews that Steve gave me.  Mikkeller is a Danish brewery that is run by one guy whose philosophy is to craft beers that push the limits of brewing.  I am highly excited to try Mikkeller’s Beer Geek Breakfast; an Oatmeal Stout brewed with coffee.  Beer Geek Breakfast is poured and ready.

Mikkeller classifies this brew as an Oatmeal Stout and their website describes Beer Geek Breakfast as, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, many say, and if you are a beer geek there is no better way to start the day than with a powerful, complex morning stout. The unique mix of oats and coffee gives this beer large body and power, while the coffee, at the same time, creates a nice balance.”

Beer Geek Breakfast pours a black coffee color with a fat, compact tiny bubble milk chocolate color head.  The aromas are an ecstasy inducing roasted malt, chocolate and coffee that scream excellence.

I have always dug stouts and from the day I had my first Guinness I knew that this was a style that I would always enjoy.  Since my venture into the Craft Beer world many years ago I have found that while Guinness is good, there are a bunch of amazing stouts that are of a much superior quality.  Beer Geek Breakfast is at the pinnacle of the style.  This is quite simply a wonderful beer that’s balance and depth are unlike any stout I have ever had.  Beer Geek Breakfast is silky smooth with a bit of a bitter chocolate bite that dissipates into a caramel malt middle and then finishes with a coffee splash that is just right.  I am dumbfounded by this brew; it’s so damn good that any description I could give would not do it justice.  I am drooling at the thought of ever getting to experiencing Beer Geek Breakfast on Nitro…talk about Beer Geek Heaven!!  Beer Geek Breakfast is not just for a perfectly balanced breakfast but a compliment to any meal.  It’s no wonder why Mikkeller has earned so much praise and recognition with a beer like Beer Geek Breakfast.  I can’t thank Steve enough for this one and can’t wait to try more offerings from Mikkeller.
