Mother Earth Brewing - Tripel Over Head: Year One Of Brewing Excellence

Forgive me beer father, for it has been 11 reviews since my last IPA review.  Actually, I’m choosing this brew for one reason and one reason only.  This past Sunday the 24th, Mother Earth Brewing celebrated their 1st anniversary.  I’d like to dedicate this review to Mother Earth and to (again) Pam Lewis, whom loves her some Belgian beers and asked for some variety.  I had the opportunity to enjoy and sample this brew straight from the brewery back in August.  If you keep up with this website, you’ll know that I’m not really a big fan of the Belgian style.  However, upon trying this brew, my eyes were opened to Belgian beers unlike any other I have tried.  Tripel Over Head, let’s get this one poured…I’m more than ready!!

Mother Earth Brewing classifies this brew as a Belgian-Style Tripel Ale and their website describes Tripel Over Head as, “We've crafted our Belgian-Style Tripel with honor to the Belgian Trappist Monks who perfected this notoriously smooth and balanced brew and leaked the secret to outsiders just a half century ago. This is a complex sipping beer that offers amazing zest yet finishes smooth and sweet.”

Tripel Over Head pours a lightly hazed golden orange color with a ½” off white head.  The aroma is an initial 1-2 combo of citrus and candi-sugar, TOH has some spice notes in the background but they are faint.

Tripel Over Head is just as I remember it, SWEET.  Yes, it’s sweet but I’m talking SAAAWEEEEET!!  If you’re still not getting it, I’m saying that it is kick-ass!  This is a great Craft Beer.  Tripel Over Head has this awesome citrusy sweetness to it that is balanced by hints of clove and spice.  What has me floored is that there is no hint whatsoever of this brew being 9% ABV as I get no warming in the finish.  Simply put, this is an amazing beer.  Mother Earth Brewing has experienced some serious growth in the last year and it is no wonder with the excellent brews being crafted by head Brewmaster Josh Brewer.  Yes, I am a mark for Mother Earth Brewing but I guarantee if you ever get to try any one of their brews or visit the brewery yourself you’d understand.  I raise my glass of Tripel Over Head and say “Sláinte” to Josh, Trent, Stephen, Greg, Pete and Travis, here is to many more years of successful brewing!!  I just wish I was there to toast you guys in person.  For those of you in North Carolina, go grab you some Tripel Over Head, raise your glass and thank the Craft Beer Gods that they have blessed you with Mother Earth Brewing.
