New Holland Brewing Company- Hopivore: This beast has no bite!

I am a sucker for the word “hops” in my beer. When I hear the word reminds me of the word of the day on Pee Wee’s Playhouse, complete with whistles, bells and screaming. So when a beer has a kick ass name like Hopivore from New Holland Brewing I just have to give it a try. I mean a “Michigan Wet Hopped Harvest Ale” sounds like heaven to me.

Hopivore pours a burnt orange hue with a slight head and almost no carbonation. I was surprised at how the aroma was mostly malt and very slight. Hardly any hops were discernable, which I found rather surprising.

New Holland has crafted a very disappointing beer here. Historically wet hopped beers have been full flavored and awesome on my palette. Hopivore tasted more like an IPA light. The flavor was muted and lifeless. The hops have no bite and just a hint of floral/ citrus. I have not been this disappointed in a beer in a long time. Hopivore simply doesn’t live up to its name or the quality I have come to expect from New Holland. This is bordering on false advertising.
