Being a Michigan born beer drinker, I have a fondness in my heart for a lot of Michigan’s Microbrews. There are so many great brewers between Bell’s, New Holland, Jolly Pumpkin, Dark Horse, Short’s and North Peak. Recently I found various beers from North Peak and one caught my eye, Archangel Summer Wheat Ale with Cherry juice.
I have found that some beer with Cherry can be great or totally miss the target. This Summer Wheat Ale comes in at 5% abv so it weighs in as a light middleweight in this department. Its pours a nice amber color that definitely shows the cherry accent. Archangel developed a nice head 1/4-1/2” in height and carries the scent of cherry coupled with the spice notes of a wheat beer.
The mouth feel is light without being unnoticeable and you get the nice tart/sweets notes of the Michigan cherries used in the process. This is not a beer that will punch you in the mouth with hops or overall body. It is a nice light summer beer with the nice touch of cherry to make it enjoyable. Overall not one of my favorite cherry beers but definitely enjoyable and perfect for Michigan summers.
ABV: 5.0%
Consumed: Pub style Pint Glass
Verdict: Buy A Six Pack (great for a summer cookout/party)
