Odell Brewing Company- India Pale Ale: A Very Happy IPA Day To Say The Least!

Unbeknownst to me, Thursday is IPA day.  I use to think that I had my finger on the pulse and that I was in the know but I realized that I am clueless.  I didn’t find out till Monday that my favorite Craft Beer style had its own designated day.  I will only blame my busy schedule and the thought that I must have missed the memo about this most glorious of days.  Now that I know, I figured that I have to do a proper IPA review for the most holy of Craft Beer days.  My dilemma, which IPA do I review in honor of IPA day?  I had three IPAs that immediately popped into my head that I had available that would be IPA Day worthy, Lucky Bucket’s IPA, Odell Brewing Company’s IPA and Cigar City’s Jai Alai.  Yes, I have had all three previously and all three are on one word, amazing.  It’s like trying to choose which of your three children your favorite is.  Based solely on experience, I decided to go with Odell Brewing Company’s India Pale Ale.  Happy IPA Day!

Odell Brewing Company classifies this brew as an India Pale Ale and their website describes India Pale Ale as, “We took the traditional IPA, originally shipped from England to India in the 1700′s, and made it bolder and more flavorful – American Style. We’ve added new varieties of highly aromatic American hops to create a distinctive bitterness profile and an incredible hop character.”

Odell’s India Pale Ale pours a golden orange with a ½” cream colored head.  The aroma is a plethora of citrus, grapefruit, earthy hops, pine and mango.

I’m not going to beat around the bush here, this beer is exceptional!  There have been very few Craft Beers that had this type of impact on me.  Odell Brewing Company’s IPA is pure Craft Beer heaven.  I really wish Odell was available here in Illinois because I would probably make this my daily go-to beer of choice.  The flavor is purely orgasmic, a sweet fruity/mango beginning that turns citrusy and hoppy in the middle and rounds out in the finish with a hint of lemon and malty sweetness plus a faint hop spiciness.  Un-freaking-believable!  Odell Brewing Company has created a masterpiece of an IPA and I for one implore you to get up off your ass and hunt one down as fast as humanly possible.  This is a Craft Beer bucket list brew for sure.  Happy IPA Day!!
