Oskar Blues Brewery- One Hit Wonder: This tune deserves a full length debut! Ameri"CAN" Craft Beer Review Month - Day 10

One thing I have learned about becoming a beer geek is, “you are only as cool as the rarest beer in your cellar.” Beer nerds love to brag about that hard to find beer that is chilling in their cabinet under the sink. For me that beer is Oskar Blues “One Hit Wonder.” This is an extremely small batch beer form a brewery that I have thoroughly enjoyed in the past. Only 200 cases were produced and it was only sold at the Tasty Weasel Taproom onsite in Colorado. I am not really sure how Jason managed to get his hands on a six pack, but I sure am grateful that I was deemed worthy enough to be bequeathed a can.

One Hit Wonder is a one time release Imperial IPA. It pours sunset orange, with a crimson tint and hazy visage. The head was light and cream colored with a medium/low carbonation level. The aroma was sweet and malty with strong hints of citrus and alcohol. Its citrus scent was very complex and seemed to go beyond simple citrus; it featured a discernable pineapple/mango quality that accentuated the sweetness.

One Hit Wonder is a beast in the flavor department. Don’t let the sweet and fruity notes fool you. This beer is STRONG! The flavor is tremendously full and complex. The dry hopping really helps to add a perfect piney dryness to a mango/ apricot hint. The finish is bitingly dry with stinging and warm hints of alcohol. ONW is a perfect symbol for AmeriCAN beer month. This little silver gem is a shinning example of how far cans have come in the last few years. It truly is a shame that One Hit Wonder won’t be able to be enjoyed by more people. Oskar Blues has a winner here. I have a feeling a beer this killer might be reproduced, mass produced and renamed. This is one One Hit Wonder that deserves an encore.
