Peak Organic Brewing Company- IPA: Interest Not Peaked

Jason So, confused and perplexed as to what brew to review next, Wes suggested that I grab one of the beers he put in my review box. He has a great record at this point as I have yet to truly disagree with him on any of the beers he has provided me. So with that in mind I decided to go organic as, “going green” seems to be the social trend these days. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about conservation and doing things that are healthy and good for the environment but I am no believer of Global Warming. In my opinion it is a hoax. Let’s just hope that Peak Organic Brewing Company’s IPA is not a hoax perpetrated by my left leaning, tree hugging partner in crime.
Peak Organic Brewing Company classifies this brew as an IPA and their website describes it as, “This unique India Pale Ale features our favorite hops—Simcoe®, Amarillo® and Nugget. A generous Amarillo and Simcoe dry hop provide for an assertive, hop-forward nose and front palate. We don’t use traditional bittering hops in our IPA, providing nothing but stimulating citrus and floral characteristics.”
Peak Organic IPA poured a sediment speckled copper/orange color with a fat 1 ½” tan foamy head with piney and citrus aromas and is a big 7.2% ABV.
Well, just because something is certified organic doesn’t mean it’s good. I can’t say that its bad but I am left rather unimpressed. I love my IPAs to have a strong bitter bite to them which Peak Organic IPA has but it leans heavily towards citrus bitterness and is not very balanced with the hops. It starts out with your standard neutral beer flavor with a citrus splash that borders on unusually odd and finishes with a strange dry taste that lingers way too long, like that friend you don’t invite to parties because they usually stay beyond their welcome. If you’re into the “organic” thing then I would say that this beer is geared towards you, if not there are much better selections in the IPA style that I would highly recommend before this one.
ABV: 7.2%
Consumed: New Belgium Globe Glass
Verdict: Buy A Six Pack
