Eric Ah, Spring. The hyacinth and daffodil, red buds and lilacs. And also spring ales! As the days get longer and the world awakens from its hibernation, so too must our taste buds. The essence of a great spring ale is “sunshine in a bottle.” And that is exactly what you get with Fling Pale Ale! Pyramid Brewery’s website boasts, “Our spectacular pale ale is a tantalizing mix of hops and malts offering a moment of unrestrained pleasure with each delectable sip.” And that almost seems like a generic understatement for the simple, yet intensely playful fun that you experience upon cracking open this bottle.
The first thing that hits you is the bright, sweet, vibrant, yet subtle hops bouquet; very reminiscent of chamomile. It pours a bright, clear, golden color with a light, fluffy, half-inch head. What follows, upon your first sip, is a light, dry, and incredibly balanced ale that is a simple pleasure to consume. This beer has plenty of body to support its bright floral overtones. But it is light enough that it won’t linger too long after the welcome wears off.
Fling Pale Ale is a great beer to enjoy while out in the yard cleaning up after a long winter, or just lounging on the front porch enjoying the day. Be warned: If you are working in the front yard with neighborly neighbors; make sure you have plenty to share. Because yard work, good company, or good conversation tends to make a beer such as this disappear in a hurry.
Cheers! And here’s to spring.
