Samuel Smith’s- Winter Welcome Ale: Someone Finally Remembers The Most Important Part Of Beer.

I have a confession to make. I like alcohol. That might be a little shocking from a guy who runs a beer review website, but it’s true. That is why I ended up enjoying Samuel Smith’s Winter Welcome Ale; you can actually taste the alcohol in this beer. This is a flavor component that too many beers seem to be ashamed of.

This amber colored ale pours with a slight sweet aroma. It begins with a clean taste, that has just the right amount of alcohol acidity. The after taste is a sweet burn with just a slight hint of spice. Honestly this is a really complex beer. The first half of the bottle tasted different from the bottom half and every sip seemed to offer some new and rewarding flavor. I am a little sad that this beer is a seasonal, because I think it would be just as enjoyable on the Fourth of July as New Years Eve. Don’t let the awful looking bottle art sway you, there is a reward hiding behind that gold foil!
