Jason I thought that I’d try and take a break from the usual IPA or pale ale review and decided to go a different route. Little did I know that when I went out to the garage to fetch a new brew to review I happened upon another ale. I figured that this past August I had celebrated my 13th wedding anniversary that it was time to celebrate another 13th anniversary. The Shmaltz Brewing Company’s Jewbelation Bar Mitzvah 13th Anniversary Ale celebrates just that.
This brew is classified as an American Strong Ale and The Shmaltz Brewing Company’s website doesn’t provide much of a description other than to notify you that this beer is made with 13 malts & 13 hops.
Jewbelation pours a deep dark brown/black color with a fat 1” light brown head and has a roasted malt/chocolate aroma and is a stout 13% ABV.
The complexity of this beer is mind blowing. The roasted malt flavor has hints of both chocolate and caramel and you can feel the alcohol dance across your palette as it warms all the way down. There are defiantly more flavors going on in this brew but it is hard to distinguish them as individuals as they combine to create a single great taste all the way through. Jewbelation is bold, dark and just plain good. "Mazal tov" to the folks at the Shmaltz Brewing Company and a big "toda" to Leah for recommending this great brew.
