Short's Brewing Company- Bloody Beer: Is it to die for?

Wes I brought a whole slew of Short’s Brews back from Michigan with me for review. I figured that there was nothing better to celebrate Halloween with than a Blood Beer. When I cheat on my beer drinking it is often with a stiff and spicy Bloody Mary, so beer brewed with tomatoes, peppercorns, celery seeds, dill and horseradish sounds like heaven to me. Could I have just found my new beer hangover cure… in a freaking beer! Dear God let this be true.
Shorts Bloody Beer pours with a crimson mask that reminded me of Poe’s “The Masque of the Red Death.” It is very lightly carbonated with almost no head. It resembles V8 which is not surprising for a beer brewed with Tomatoes. If you blindfolded someone and made them smells this brew, they would swear that it is a Bloody Mary. The hints of peppercorn, horseradish, tomato and dill are pungent and damn appetizing. Enough torture already, I have to taste it.
Bloody Beer only vaguely reminds you that it is a beer. The peppercorn and celery seed are really the stars of this brew. The tomato serves as the backbone here. It is a perfect backdrop for the spicy notes of horseradish the take the place of hops in the finish. Damn this beer could make a priest sin. Track this beer down!
Hats off again to Short’s! I love this company’s lack of sensibility and incredulous need to experiment. This beer is not going to please everyone, but I freaking love it! You probably would not want to drink these all day, but what a great beer to go with a burger and some wings. I love how Short’s just makes strange ideas work. I cannot wait to try the S’more Stout, the Key Lime Pie and The Cherry Porter. Bring it on!
