Spotezl Brewery- Shiner Oktoberfest: Like raking leaves in a wind storm…

I shouldn’t be drinking this beer. I have so many brews waiting for me in the fridge that are in front of this brew in the review queue. But I am not in the mood for an IPA, especially now that Oktoberfests are showing up in the stores. Shiner Oktoberfest is a marzen. Marzens got their name because they were brewed in March and cellared in caves during the summer to be drunk in the fall, hench “Oktoberfest.”  I freaking love Oktoberfests, so I am going to cheat on my review pile and crack a Shiner Oktoberfest tonight.

Personally I feel that Oktoberfests are some of the hardest beers to describe. Shiner has a very traditional Oktoberfest here, it boosts the same coppery/orange color you would expect. It reminds me of Autumn leaf piles. I was alarmed, however, at how fizzy this brew was. The head was small and light but it was fizzing like a sprite five minutes after I opened it. The aroma is very faint as well, only slight hints of malt and a small hops profile is present.

I don’t even know how to begin discussing how let down I am in this beer. It tastes like someone dumped orange food coloring in a can of Miller Lite. This orange fizzy water is essentially flavorless except a very tiny hop nip at the end. This crap is so watery it could easily be the official October piss water of Wrigley Stadium. I’m just playing guys, everyone knows the Cubs don’t play in October. But seriously, avoid this swill, It sucks.

ABV: 5.7%
