Jason Here in the Land of Lincoln jokes are often made at the expense to our neighbors to the north. What’s not to make fun of? We all know the infamous moniker “Cheese Heads,” right? However, I have had some great beers out of Wisconsin and I’m hoping that Stevens Point Brewery’s Point Cascade Pale Ale can continue that trend.
Steven’s Point Brewery classifies this beer as an American Pale Ale and their website describes Point Cascade Pale as, “Point Cascade Pale Ale is handcrafted combining special top-fermenting yeast and a dry hopping process to create this truly classic American Pale Ale. The intriguing character is derived from generous quantities of the choicest Yakima Valley Cascade hops and the finest crystal, 2-row pale, and Munich malts. The result is a delicious American Pale Ale with a signature fragrant hop bouquet and soft malt palate."
Point Cascade Pale Ale pours a golden color with a ½” off white head and has a mixture of piney & hop aromas and is 5.4% ABV.
Well here is another thing that I can make fun of Wisconsin for. Despite being a multiple award winner at the World Beer Championships, this beer is a huge letdown. I was looking forward to an award winning pale ale but I can barely taste anything beyond the carbonation. I can kind of make out the hops and the taste resembles a beverage of the beer variety but I’m not completely sure. In all honesty, I didn’t even finish it. When it comes to choosing a Pale Ale, let me point you in a different direction…like a Three Floyds Alpha King.
ABV: 5.4%
Consumed: New Belgium Globe Glass
Verdict: Skip It
