Stoudt’s Brewing Company- Double IPA: Break the habit or my new fix?

I freaking love IPA’s; however, after a year of nonstop reviewing any human would look for something new. So like any open-minded, subjective human I eagerly await new experiences. My brain danced at the merry thought of my next brew obsession. Should I track down new Smoky Porters? Or maybe I could become a “Belgian” guy. How about reaching for my black belt and becoming a Saison Samurai? I could strap on my Sean Connery beard and go on the hunt for red October in search of the world’s best Irish Red? In the end I decided to do the only sane, logical and novice option: begin the hunt for the perfect Imperial/Double IPA! Genius… how had I not thought of this years ago?

I have had some killer DIPA’s in my life and I will happily try any new one that comes my way. Tonight I cracked open a Stoudt’s Brewing Co. Double IPA. It poured a very bright orange like a menacing jack-o-lantern and had a robust and whirly head. Stoudt’s DIPA has strong notes of sweet malty grain, citrus/ piney hops and alcohol. It is very floral as well, like a soft and sweet perfume.

There is nothing soft, sweet or petite about the flavor. This beer will kick you in the freaking teeth and call you a pussy. Stoudt’s DIPA is like the 4th of July in your mouth. Initially a sweet burst of malt creeps in but it is soon replaced by a heavy warming of citrus and alcohol. As a big whiskey fan, I really appreciate hints of alcohol in my beer and this badass mofo delivers. The finish is sweet, dry and amazingly satisfying. I am going to place this beer in my top ten IPA’s EVER and that is not an easy list to crack. Drive to Pennsylvania, give the Hershey’s plant the finger, and buy cases of this sweet treat! Props to my boy Jason for another insanely amazing, “out of state” hookup! I am lamenting the fact I only have one bottle of this beauty…

ABV: 10%

Consumed: Globe Glass

Verdict: Buy a KEG!
