Sun King Brewing Company- Osiris Pale Ale: A God-Like Pale Ale In All Aspects

Tuesday August 24th - Back in June I had a chance to attend a bash thrown at Half Acre Beer Company for American Craft Beer Week.  They had representatives from multiple breweries and a few of the brews really stood out as exceptional.  One of these brews traveled all the way from Indianapolis, IN and was one that I had not previously heard of.  The reason, it’s not available in Illinois.  Lucky for me I was traveling through Indiana on my way to North Carolina last week and made a stop just to locate this fine brew.  Thankfully I found it in one shot and proved to only be a 5 minute detour.  I am super stoked to once again revisit Sun King Brewing Company’s Osiris Pale Ale.  I am hoping that Osiris Pale Ale proves to be everything I remember it to be.

Sun King Brewing Company classifies this Craft Beer as an American Pale Ale and their website describes Osiris Pale Ale as, “Osiris Pale Ale is an assertive American Pale and is not meant for the timid. Crafted by our Brewers for our Brewers, Osiris blends three choice varieties of American hops to create a spicy, citrus hop punch that is sure to satisfy any hop head. Every batch of Osiris is dry-hopped towards the end of fermentation for maximum hop flavor, aroma and character.”

Osiris Pale Ale Pours a beautiful crystal clear golden color with a 1” off-white head.  The aroma flourishes with floral hops with compliments of citrus and faint bready malts.

The first thing that stands out about Osiris Pale Ale is great artwork & design on the can.  Yep, this beauty is canned and to go even further, it’s a full 16 oz pint!!  This rare combination gets extra bonus points from me.  Osiris Pale Ale is just as I remember it, hoppy.  It starts with a slight malt sweetness and then you get rocked with a spicy hop splash that finishes towards the citrusy side and leaves your taste buds wanting more.  It’s bite is boarder line IPA but stops just short.  I have always used Three Floyds Alpha King as my watermark for Pale Ales and I have to say that Sun King Brewing Company’s Osiris Pale Ale is Alpha Kings Equal and may even hold a slight edge over AK.  Osiris Pale Ale is slightly more hoppy and less malty which in my book is damn near perfection.  Osiris was an Egyptian God and is identified as the Gold of the afterlife, the underworld and the dead.  Osiris Pale Ale is a very God-like Pale Ale and if this is what is served in the afterlife I’m going to be one happy dead SOB.  Please Sun King, start distribution to the Chicagoland area!!
