Wes Nothing quite screams, “drink a beer” like a freaking Monday. So they make a good day to write a review. I was looking for a bitter brew to match my bitter attitude, something that would erase my never ending dream of driving my elbow through my incompetent boss’s stupid face. I decided to head back to a brewery that I have not had much luck with, Three Floyds. Tonight I was going to give Alpha King Pale Ale a shot. Would they manage to break the curse this time around?
Alpha King Pale Ale pours dark amber with a thick and very robust foam. It has a very crisp and slightly sweet, hoppy bouquet. This sweetness transcends into the flavor as well. It has a very tasty roasted hop bitterness that balanced with a grainy caramel finish. It reminded me of a slightly sweeter Two Hearted Ale, and yes, that is a very good thing. I could not put my glass down. This is a delicious beer that Three Floyds should be very proud of.
Moments like this are why I will never judge a brewery based off one, two or even three beers. Beer is about finding your compliment. This beer compliments my tastes perfectly. It is a straight forward pale ale, with great flavor, and a resounding “drinkabilty.” If you’re trying to compile your definitive top 50 greatest beers list like Jason and myself; I would find it hard to believe anyone would leave this beer off!
