Jason Damn these just keep getting better and better. I think that I have officially become an IPA junkie. On my latest beer run I grabbed for a little lady and ended up with a bitter woman. As my luck would have it, this turned out to work in my favor. Today’s suds selection is Tyranena Brewing Company’s Bitter Woman IPA.
Tyranena Brewing Company classifies this brew as an India Pale Ale (IPA) and their website describes Bitter Woman IPA as “Lest we forget Aunt Cal, an early resident of Lake Mills. Local history remembers her for blindly running into a hitching post and saying, "Excuse me, Dr. Dodge!" It was said that she was an old sweetheart of the famous American poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. And she still had the love letters to prove it! Sadly, Aunt Cal never wed. We brewed our Bitter Woman IPA the way we imagine Aunt Cal may have been, very fruity and intensely bitter. So lift up a pint of Bitter Woman IPA and toast Aunt Cal and the bitter woman you know. Cheers!” “Bitter Woman IPA is our Wisconsin variation of an India Pale Ale. This beer is intensely bitter with a mighty hop flavor and aroma.”
This beer poured a spicy orange color with a ½” light tan colored head with heavy hoppy aromas and is 5.75% ABV.
Well, what does one say about a Bitter Woman? I could go on and it’s because I know a few, but let’s not go down that road because I really don’t need to get myself in trouble. Surprisingly enough with the beer coming in at 68 IBU’s, it seems way more bitter than you’d think. But when I say bitter in regards to this beer I mean it as a good thing…not like bitter in a woman which is a bad thing. This is a really good beer, if you like IPAs and even better is you like bitter women. Don’t be fooled by the less than appealing labeling/packaging, this beer tastes better than the bottle looks.
ABV: 5.75%
Consumed: New Belgium Globe Glass
Verdict: Buy a Twelve Pack
