Tyranena Brewing Company- Hop Whore Imperial IPA: Can I be your pimp?

There is something about losing your job do to the inefficiency and ineptitude of others that can really put you in a shitty mood. After I officially relinquished my teaching position to a political think tank of bureaucratic sycophants, I was ready to smash someone’s head in. Instead I went to the gym and worked out, hard; usually this helps, it didn’t. I returned home just as pissed off as I left, I needed a beer that was going to match my pure bitterness. If you have the balls to call your brew Hop Whore, well you just might survive my wrath.

As you pour Hop Whore you will notice that is very floral in its aroma. The hops leap right out at you from the glass. You will also get hints of citrus and a little pine if you sniff hard enough. The color is flat out beautiful, a golden-bronze with a strong head of creamy off-white foam. This is definitely not a street walker, more of a high class escort. It is no wonder that Tyranena Brewing put this girl to work.

If you like big, bold flavors this Imperial IPA is for you. Think of Dog Fish Head 90 Minute and you’re on the way there. There is a bounty of roasted caramel malt forming the core of this beer. It has one of the fullest flavors of any beer I have ever tried. Bravo. This brew is so voluptuous and sweet the hops only act as the sexy lingerie you have to peel back to find the real treasure.

Tyranena brews this as part of their brewers gone wild series, and I must say keep it up gents! I loved this beer. Hop Whore shows how hops can be used to innovate and not just add aroma and bitterness. If you can get your hands on Hop Whore Imperial IPA don’t even bother asking about the hourly rate, buy her for the night!

Tyranena Brewing Company- Hop Whore: Better Than A Pretty Woman

So this next brew came as a suggestion from our friend Michael Bergman from MidwestMicroBrews.  I happened across a FB post from Michael boasting about this Pretty Woman of a brew from the folks out of Lake Mills, Wisconsin.  The name alone was worthy of trying this beer.  My first experience was a Bitter Woman IPA and it only seem fitting that my next tryst would be with a Hop Whore from Tyranena Brewing Company.  A tale of two completely different ladies and I’m guessing that I’m sure which one I’m going to enjoy more…let’s find out.

Tyranena Brewing Company classifies this craft beer as an Imperial India Pale Ale (IIPA) and their website briefly describes the series(Brewers Gone Wild!) of beer in which Hop Whore resides as, “A Series of Big, Bold, Ballsy Beers... Each beer in this series is to the extreme.  Big flavor, wild names and.... well.... do you need more?”  The bottle notes, “Overpowering perfume.  Dripping with luscious hop flavor.  And, oh what a body.  You’re in for one helluva experience!”  What I love is that each of the brews share the same label and are only identifiable by the neck label on the bottle.

Hop Whore pours a foggy copper color with a 1” light tan head and smells of citrus, piney hops and some caramel malt notes and the ABV was unavailable on the Tyranena website.

I don’t mean to go all John on ya’ but this is a high class, Elliot Spitzer style whore worthy of taking your socks off for…in the beer sense that is.  She’s got curves, is smooth and bites in all the right places and she won’t get jealous if you finish off her other three friends (comes in a four pack BTW).  Hop Whore starts balanced with a malt sweetness that is silky in character but with citrus hop compliments and finishes the exact opposite with a hoppy bitter bite with a malty smooth tail.  Lucky for me this whore foursome only ran me about $14, this is a far cry from what Ashley Dupre commanded in her hay day.  Thankfully this whore won’t require a hotel room, secret names, and discreet bills to your credit card or a trip to the pokey in new silver bracelets.  Hop Whore is a really good IIPA; I’m now officially a Hop John and have no guilt in admitting so.
